Ooredoo achieves 99% mobile coverage, launches 5G home internet

Ooredoo Oman has announced the launch of its 5G ‘Home Internet’ plans, which offer maximum speeds of 100Mbps. The firm says it has been preparing for the transition to 5G home broadband since 2019, with the service currently available to customers in Muscat, Barka, Sohar, Salalah, Al Buraimi and Nizwa. The network is also expected to pave the way for new technologies such as autonomous vehicles, virtual reality and IoT.

Ooredoo has also revealed that coverage of its mobile network has reached 99% of the population, following an eight-year network upgrade and expansion programme.

‘The launch of Ooredoo’s new 5G Home Internet will bring high speed internet access to new area of the Sultanate,’ commented Ian Dench, CEO of Ooredoo Oman, adding: ‘This new high speed ‘wireless fibre’ using 5G technology will take internet use to a whole new level and open up a world of new ways of living; something we are on the cusp of, but which can now expand dramatically. By providing our customers with this transformative technology, we will be giving them the best possible data experience so that they can enjoy the internet even more.’
